Our Story ~ Nos Storia

You are welcome here.

Our story began a century ago when many people left Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) to settle in established communities in New England.  My great-grandfathers had come to work in various labor industries such as farming, whaling, fishing, etc…  They arrived, worked hard, saved, sent back money and provisions.  Letter writing was the only way to share joys and express sorrow.

I, Ana De Pina, the Founder, was completing my Master’s in Business Administration degree at Sawyer Business School, Suffolk University in 2023.  I started to believe that what started as an idea for an innovation project in an MBA Strategy Class could actually become a viable business to business company.  I reached out to a lawyer and one hundred years after my great grandfathers arrived in the USA, their great-granddaughter embarked on a journey to the unknown and on May 22, 2023 Cape Verdean Greeting Cards was officially registered with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to create cards in Kriolu, Portuguese, English, and Spanish.

As we celebrate our first Anniversary, we recognize the people who have helped us.  Thank you to our amazing Editor, Adelina da Silva, to our retailers, Nos Casa Cafe in Boston, MA, Giselle’s Flowers and Gifts in Boston, MA, Genius Planet in Boston, MA, Vicente’s Supermarket in Brockton, MA, Sideline Brand in Vineyard Haven, MA and Zion Union Heritage Museum in Hyannis, MA.  To everyone who purchased a card, shared a post, and supported us, thank you.  We exist to show the world our beauty in all its forms.

Obrigadu,

Ana

Ana De Pina: A Legacy Through Greeting Cards

In the heart of Dorchester, Ana De Pina founded Cape Verdean Greeting Cards, a homage to her cultural roots and a tribute to her late grandparents. After her grandfather's passing, Ana was inspired by memories of her family's first apartment and the tales her grandmother shared about Johnie Ponte—a place of significance she later located through clues left behind. This business not only celebrates Cape Verdean heritage but also preserves the fond memories of her grandparents, both of whom have now passed away. Ana's venture represents a bridge between past and present, personal and communal, all encapsulated in the meaningful art of greeting cards.
